Transitioning from Pre-School to Primary

- Information for Parents -

The lives of young children changed suddenly when early learning and childcare services and schools closed in March in response to the COVID-19 emergency. As some children prepare to make the move to pre-school and school for the first time, parents can be assured that there are a number of actions they can take at home to support these important transitions.

Looking for donations-Recommended Novels

Here is a list of recommended books for newly independent readers, i.e. readers who can read on their own or may wish to read aloud to their parents/siblings. You might consider borrowing them from a library or giving them to your children as Christmas presents .

We would like to make these available for our pupils in their class libraries. If you have any of these titles and are finished with them, would you please  donate them to the school?

Send them in to any class teacher and we’ll make sure they go to a good home. Thank you!

Our Latest News

Chess Club, Sciath na Scol & Wellness Activities

Chess

In October, we had the first chess lessons in Ballygarvan National School's brand new chess club. Students are learning piece-by-piece how to play chess, and improving their skills by playing mini-games.

The students have been very enthusiastic and excited playing chess and we hope to run more chess lessons after Christmas. A big thank you to all the parents who supported the club!

Sciath na Scol

Congratulations to the 5th and 6th class boys who won the DF1 Sciath na Scol vs Aghada in a very close match in Páirc Uí Rinn. Final score 2-3 to 0-7.

The 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th class students attended the match to support the team. Their support and chants were great and created an electric atmosphere.

Positive Wellbeing Month

We have had a fantastic October of Healthy Eating and Positive Wellbeing. Our focus was on 'Be our own change'. As a school we explored many different activities to allow us to be more in the present moment: guided mindfulness in class, Drop everything and read, Drop everything and dance, Drop everything and colour.

We are very proud to announce that Ballygarvan NS has achieved a Science Foundation Ireland Discover Science and Maths Award for 2017/2018.

The judging panel remarked that there was a "fantastic log of evidence which clearly show(ed) the huge range of Science, Technology Engineering and Maths work going on in the school."

You can see our plaque of excellence on display in the school. We are working towards achieving the award again this school year, so keep an eye on the website for all the wonderful science being done in the school.
